Coal Liquefaction Technologies

Coal Liquefaction Technologies

Direct coal liquefaction has been pursued as a domestic method of liquid fuel production for decades, and the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) has been researching direct coal liquefaction since the establishment of the U.S. Department of Energy. The economic and environmental challenges of the technology have slowed its progress into the commercial marketplace. The EERC Foundation holds a variety of intellectual property packages focused on improving the efficiency of liquid fuel production through direct coal liquefaction, improving the overall environmental signature, and producing a fuel that more closely resembles traditional fuels.
